Monitoring service Secure.me seeks to help users gain more control over their Facebook information. It initially only seemed useful for parents who wanted to monitor their children's activities on Facebook. In light of the ever-changing Facebook privacy concerns, however, it has become clear that users need to monitor their own profiles as well. Secure.me is free and easy to sign up for.

5 Ways TV Newsrooms Use the Facebook Cover Photo-Some uses of the new Timeline feature to think about

Media_http6mshcdncomw_nzqza

In TV news lingo, the cover photo is the lead story. And in the competitive world of journalism, newsrooms are all vying for the best lead. I tell my newsroom clients to think of it as the cold open. You have a short amount of time to get people hooked and wanting more. For news organizations, it’s a special challenge. Facebook is more than a publicity or customer service platform. For them, it’s part of the job. Journalists use social media to gather news content and find sources. And step one is building a large and active fan base.

Here are a few trends we’re seeing as newsrooms use their cover photos to tease viewers into becoming fans. What are some other trends you’re seeing with cover photos on news organizations’ brand Timelines? Which approach do you think works best? Let us know in the comments.

Foursquare on Facebook: Hands on With the New Timeline Integration-More consolidation of the location based services

Media_http5mshcdncomw_nticb
Users who connect their Foursquare accounts to their Facebook accounts will see a new Foursquare Timeline module that displays recent checkin activity as well as total checkins and top places for the month. It looks like this: When checkins appear in the Newsfeed, they’ll be plotted on a map and include the viewer’s other Facebook friends that are checked in on Foursquare at the same location. Here’s how that will look:

Real-Life Examples Of How Google's "Search Plus" Pushes Google+ Over Relevancy-Excellent overview of what the new changes mean

The new Google “Search Plus Your World” feature — which I’m now simply calling “Search Plus” — has just gone live for me. Huge debate erupted yesterday over whether it somehow favors Google+. I can see now that it clearly does, even more than I thought. Here’s a closer look at the changes, including how they turn Google+ into an essential social network for any search marketer.

Even Signed Out, Google+ Suggestions Offered

This is a search for music:

I got these results even though I was not signed into Google. In fact, I was in “incognito” mode in Google Chrome, which means as far as Google is concerned, I’m a brand new searcher it has never seen before: no Google+ account, no personalization of any type that should be happening beyond language and geography.

One of the more interesting paragraphs is about halfway down: "If You’re Not On Google+, You’re Not A Suggestion"

Facebook Buys Gowalla, The Location Sharing Service That We All Thought Was Dead-One less thing to do while I'm out

gowalla150.jpgCNNMoney reports that Facebook has just acquired the location-based sharing service Gowalla. Sources say that Gowalla's employees will move to Facebok's Palo Alto offices and work on the Timeline feature, which is all about telling stories. Gowalla had recently shifted its vision to storytelling.

When Gowalla launched in 2009, it faced off against rival location-based social network Foursquare. Since then, Foursquare grew leaps and bounds in the location space, transitioning from a check-in service to a partner of daily deals giant Groupon. Gowalla got lost in the dust.
